Entrepreneur of the Year - The Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop
Nancy and Greg opened their garden centre in Elmsdale back in 1998. They
quickly expanded into many different areas including ice cream and giftware.
After a few years, they decided that selling handmade fudge might be a nice
addition to the business. The response was so positive that they decided to
transform their gift shop into a traditional candy store consisting of a
wide variety of handmade chocolates, new and old fashioned candy and of
course their now famous creamy fudge. The Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop has
taken them in many new directions to include providing custom products for
corporate gift giving, special events and weddings.
Business of the Year -
Strides Health & Fitness Club
As a life-long resident of Enfield/Elmsdale, Leslie knew that there was
no better place to open Strides Health & Fitness Club than in her own
community. The completion of this beautiful, modern facility in the fall of
2006, along with her massage therapy clinic within Macmillan Centre fulfills
a lifelong dream for her. The response was so great that within one year
Strides Health & Fitness Club expanded by putting a cardio room and spinning
room upstairs. Serving the community is a commitment that Leslie takes very
seriously. Her genuine dedication, professionalism, and care will provide a
firm foundation for Strides Health & Fitness Club for the many healthy years
ahead.
Exporter of the Year -
Rainbow Farms Limited
Rainbow Farms Limited, a family run business, was founded in 1970 by Ronald
(Bud) Weatherhead. Daily operations are run by both Bud, and daughter,
vice-president Barbara Hagell. Approximately 60 kms from Halifax their
location is ideal for exporting the blueberries from the Halifax seaport to
foreign markets. Approximately 70% of blueberries are exported to other
countries; mostly destined for the United States, Japan and Europe. The
blueberry processing facility has grown to its present capacity to freeze
over 20,000 pounds per hour. The cold storage facilities hold 15 million
pounds of product. Presently, there are over 20 people working in the
processing facility. This number increases to over 100 people during the
peak harvest season, in August and September.
Community Booster of the Year -
The Weekly Press

years later, the paper has seen a lot of changes, from a new owner, several
editors, numerous reporters and a rapidly increasing coverage area. The

news of the community to residents each week. Over the past 21 years
The Weekly Press has been able to help support local organizations such as
the Caring & Sharing Angel Tree, Corridor Christmas Parade and the East
Hants Sportsplex Expansion by donating gift subscriptions, editorial and
advertising space.
